My Little Monkeys

I've been reading some books lately and I have to admit that sometimes I let the kids run wild for an hour or so when I can't put the book down. I do still have my "mommy-sense" though, so when things got a little too quiet upstairs this is what I found.




















Not only had the boys emptied all the towels on the bottom shelves of my linen closet but they were using them as bunk beds. So clever!

After a long day of keeping Ryan from climbing onto things he shouldn't, I asked him if I should start calling him Curious George. He looked at me and with a big grin said, "oo oo oo." I guess that answers my question!

Matthew and the Whale

Last night for Family Home Evening we talked about the story of Jonah and the whale. Our sweet Matthew has has kind of a hard week listening (especially to mom), so when we asked him what he wanted to learn about he requested Jonah. We thought it was the perfect way to tie in a lesson on listening and obedience. Kevin told the story of Jonah and how he was a prophet asked to go to Nineveh by Heavenly Father. Jonah didn't want to go, so he got in a boat to run away. There was a big storm and the sailors were afraid. Jonah knew it was his fault, so he told them to throw him into the sea to calm the storm. Jonah was then swallowed by a big fish where he told Heavenly Father he was sorry and went to Nineveh like he was asked to in the first place. We explained to Matthew that we can use the story in our own lives, that we should listen to Heavenly Father and do what he asks us to do and that we should also listen to our parents because they love us and want us to be happy. "So Matthew," said Kevin to summarize, "what do we learn from Jonah's story?" Matthew: "We need to stay in the boat."

It looks like we'll be having a few more discussions on the subject.

Matthew's Stories

Matthew has had some interesting things to say today. Here are some of the best.

This morning Ryan was playing with some cars and started to throw them. I asked him to not throw the cars and drive them on the floor. Matthew piped up with his 3 1/2 year-old wisdom, "Mom, if Ryan throws a car again you will have to call the police and they will come to give Ryan a throwing ticket."

Just now as Matthew was finishing lunch, he started wiggling around in his chair. A sure sign that a bathroom trip is not far away, I asked him if he needed to go potty. He assured me he didn't, and when I asked again he said, "No, Matthew does not need to go to the bathroom. That is the end of my story."

Thomas the Tank Engine

About a week ago we went up to the Heber Valley Railroad to ride on Thomas the Tank Engine. Ryan is currently obsessed with Thomas and we thought that Matthew would really get a kick out of it.
After exploring all the fun activities it was finally time for our quick train ride. Both Matthew and Ryan didn't know what to expect but they enjoyed the Thomas music in the background and they loved not being seat-belted in.
It was a really fun day. The boys loved the train and we had a lot of fun with them. We are still getting requests to go on train rides.
